andersenmom @ 12:29 pm: Week Two Nominations
For previous nominations, please go here.

First, please make sure to read the rules post; there is a lot of information there, all of it necessary for us to be able to process your nomination. It includes instructions on HOW to correctly nominate someone, so make sure you read it.

And, to the nominations. Please, keep in mind that these nominations are only for stories which begin during the MMPR, Zeo, and Turbo seasons up to Passing the Torch. It is an arbitrary assignment, more for administrative ease than anything else. Please keep your nominations to this period at this time.

Our categories are as follows:

Wide Scope Classical Authors: Know an author that has made a serious impact on the fandom in general? This is their place. Let us know who you think belongs here. In addition to authors nominated directly to this category, any author who has had at least three of their stories nominated will be automatically counted towards this category.

Speciality Classical Authors: Is there someone you go to when you want to read a specific kind of story, or about a specific person or relationship? This is for those people. Is there someone who started a trend - something everyone uses now? This is also for them. In this category - please tell us what the author is known for.

Fanon Creators: Do you know who started an idea or an event that everyone uses now? Tell us who - and tell us what they started.

Trend Setters: Do you know a story that made a relationship or an event popular? Tell us the story, and what it started.

Keystone Stories: Is there a fic that you think anyone new to the fandom should read? Tell us about it here.

Classical Works: Companion category to Speciality Classical Authors, but for a specific story you'd recommend to anyone wanting to read for a specific niche. Tell us who, and tell us what.

Fandom Institutions: Is there someone you always recommend someone read? What about a place you go to find the stories you like? Or where someone has done extensive research, to aid those writing stories? This is their category.

Dishonorable Mention: Is there a story you tell people to read to show them what not to do in this fandom? Tell us in this category.

If you have questions, by all means, ask them. Our only request is that you put the subject line "Question" on your comment, so we can handle your comments with a little more ease. This post is for Nominating authors or works, or for asking questions. If you'd like to start a discussion, we have a perfectly good Forum for such things; please take them there.

Also, please note that we are looking for people willing to create banners, or who are willing to back us up on administrative duties in case we get completely swamped. The sign-up post is here.

ETA: Note: Please indicate if the fic is adult (NC-17) or is a torture fic, for the benefit of those with those squicks.

Thanks so much!

ETA: This post is now closed: to nominate someone, please go here.

Yeah, I just stumbled across one of my pet "dishonorable mention"s again.

What not to do in this (or any, really) fandom -- is let your own values and belief systems overshadow the canon characters. With all due respect to devout believers, I really DON'T think Billy would ever "get religion" and desert his friends if they won't follow in his footsteps. Nor can I buy Jason (!) becoming a missionary.

If you feel your stomach is strong enough, check out Georgia Peach.

I just realized - contacting people about "dishonorable mention" nomination? Big oops and we don't want to start wank.

Possibly put it as a PSA only?

Who's the author? I can't seem to get to it directly from your link. I'm intrigued and horrified...

Never mind, I thought Georgia Peach was the story title.

I'll check these out when I get home.

Specialty Classical Author nod

(Link)
I must give credit where credit is due in this category:

coba1t_blue gets my nod for Specialty Classical Authors because of his shipping of Jason/Billy. I can always find a good B/J fic if I go to his profile on ff.net.

I'd like to nominate the following stories:

Second Chances Saga
&

Second Chances Saga - The Sequel

Panache gets another specialty classical author nod from me for her story Conversations at 3 AM

And for tortured Jason because Billy is dead/hurt/etc I toss in The Girl in the Red Jacket for But I've opened up my eyes & I Remember

Bah, everytime I finish I think of 5 more fics that I could nominate!

"Conversations" had been nominated in the first round, so this already counts as a vote.

And Martyr Jason and Martyr Billy are shaping up to be our largest niches here...

Ooh, I love "Second Chances".

I'll add a vote for Dragonkin - crash course in how to write cliffhangers.

I also think that the Big Adventure Stories niche just got called into existence. It's definitely a particular kind of storytelling.

That was me saying that i'm nominating Dragonkin in that category.

I wanted to nominate hagar, germankitty or cmar can I do that or no since they are staff/admins etc?

Re: Question

(Link)
And while we're at declaring germankitty's nomination - which I so took for granted that I forgot to say it out loud - i'll try to tackle the details:

(1) Wide Scope classical author
(2) Speciality Classical Author in the niches of Jason/Kat and Tommy-and-Jason either as friends or a couple
(3) Casting Stones in Keystone Stories. I have my issues with this one, but it's monumental.
(4) In the Blink of an Eye, Classical Work in Tommy/Jason Friendship niche.
(5) I'm pretty sure that a "How did the five meet" niche should exist, so in that niche.

Oh, and
Stefanie Moffet as Speciality Classical Author in Martyr Billy niche, and her stories Clone Wars (all three-story series) and True Lies in Classical Stories, Martyr Billy niche.

Gamine's Legacy! It's unique enough that I don't know if it would fit in an "After the Power" niche, and it totally should be a classic. I could do with slightly less elaborate and destiny-oriented love plots, but that's what it should be like!

Okay, as per Classic Red's request, here are my week #2 nominations again:

Wide Scope Author: Mele

Specialty Author: Psycho Tangerine (crack!/humorfic) and Stephanie Moffett (Rap) for Martyr!Billy

Keystones: OVG

Fanon Creators: Stephanie Moffett (Rap) for crossing over PR with adult TV drama (Come to think of it, that would also fit "Trend Setters")

Classic Stories:
The Bond
The Clone Wars
True Lies (all three from Steph again (first team meets/Martyr Billy)
Mall Magic, Cynthia Harrell (first team meets)
The Starlight Crystal, Cynthia Harrell (post-Zeo Billy gets new Powers)
Halloween Horrors, four stories by Ellen Brand and Jeremy Ray Logsdon (bringing a horror element to PR)

Dishonorable Mention: Georgia Peach (Note: I've changed the "Contact Info" field on the spreadsheet to "Found at" for this category, as we don't really want to award anyone nominated there, do we? :))

Here's more rec:

germankitty for Specialty Classical Authors; shipping Jason/Tommy.

More than Friends and Brothers

I'd like to nominate germankitty & hagar972 for Fandom Institutions

They both put alot into their writing, and it always speaks to me. Hagar especially for Project:Aftermath

I'd like to add hagar972 work Constellations for Classical works!

Phew that's all out of me tonight but I'm sure I'll think of more before all is said and done.

germankitty for Speciality Classical Authors in the Jason/Tommy niche, check; Project: Aftermath for - did you mean the Classical Works or the Keystone Stories categories? (Classical Works require a niche. Keystone is... well, the name's pretty self explanatory.)

Constellations is Ninja Storm and More than Friends and Brothers is not old enough, so i'm afraid neither of these nominations may be accepted.

It would really help if you'd go over the above again and say which author/story for which category did you mean.

Hagar especially for Project:Aftermath [for Classical Works, if Life after Rangerhood/coping with what you did as a Ranger in Real Life is niche, that's where I'd put it]

Does that help? Sorry for the confusing comments :)

I don't know if she has a LJ but Karen was one of the first I ever read and her Billy Jason showed for back ground on both of there parents then most writers ever show and Blue Yonder was one of the first power rangers AU I remember reading, but
Caught on Fire and Fairer Than Death are great stories about Billy and Jason. I would like to Nominated her for Speciality Classical Author in Billy/Jason.

and I'm less sure about this one but also Fanon Creator, all three story are linked by the fact that in Blue Yonder Jason goes to different earths to see different billys and I've seen others do the same, with different earths in one story but I'm not sure it she did it first or if ever one did it on there own but there it is.

I know that Mele has written a story where Jason goes dimension-hopping to find a replacement Billy, bot for the life of me can't find it. *frustrated sigh* I'll ask her for a copy/Link respectively.

Edit: Oops, not a replacement Billy -- he actually seeks out ALL of his teammates in an alternate reality, including his own alter ego, and brings the team together.

Edit: The sequel -- found it!

I know I made a nominating post previously, but LJ seems to have eaten it - or else it's somewhere in the wrong place or else I'm hallucinating. Anyway:

Fandom Institutions:

Joe Rovang's Writer's Guide. I've seen it mentioned but it's not in the sheets.
Power Rangers Spoiler Warnings

Dishonorable Mention:

Fandom Insitutions -

Legends: Mighty Morphin Power Rangers would be a site that if people are wanting a good grasp of the original ten rangers, this is a good site - http://legends.tabletsofdestiny.com/ It's by Vespera.

If I did it wrong, I apologize!

Extensive research for writing aids

(Link)
There's a site, and I don't know if many use it, but I stumbled across this site when searching Power Rangers and I've gone back to it many times for clarification on some character's actions during the seasons. It's a decent site but what makes it stand out in my mind is that the person that put this site together took the time and research necessary to write out what happens to that character along the way in the form of a story. It isn't really 'fan-fiction' per se, but it IS a good site for very good detailed information on the first few teams. Each charcter is handled separately and it does give some good information or base for story ideas, but all of this is ONLY in persepective of the series.

The site is here if you'd like to check it out: http://www.nakspowerrangers.com/

As I said I do go to this site and read the 'biographies' just for clarification on what happens during a certain episode or era for certain characters. It's sometimes easier and quicker than finding the ep and watching it.

So I'd like to nominate this as a 'fandom institution'. As for Dishonorable Mentions - I will second (vote) for Georgia Peach and would also like to add WhiteNinjaRanger's stories from aff.net - bad - bad- bad and very CLASSIC example of what NOT to while writing slash.

Not sure what category to put these into, but I'd like to nominate germankitty for her Jason/Tommy tales. Cmarwingnut for her work with germankitty, mirror_kitten (Baby Kitty at ff.net)for her Tommy tales and specifically (to stay within the rules) her Tommy/Zedd series that starts with The Green Dream, The White Nightmare, and The Red Delusion. (Called the Zedd Chronicles on her ff.net author page).

Thanks on behalf of myself and cmar_wingnut, but "Strangers in Red" is not eligible on three counts: a) it's past our current cut-off point, b) not old enough yet, and c) Cmar is a Curator. (Although I'd like to discuss that issue with the Staff at some point ...)

Dimension hopping

Just to give credit where it's due, Second Chances was written as another Dimension of Karen Davis' Blue Yonder (I credited it in the Author's Notes). Second Chances is by definition Dimension Hopping. (Not that I would ever want to compete with Dagmar as she's head and shoulders above us all)
